LAVAZZA
1895: This is the year the Lavazza Company is officially established. Luigi heads the company, assisted by his cousin Pericle Forno. The shop sells a bit of everything. Lavazza produces soap, spirits, oil, spices and of course, coffee.
1923: With the introduction of the new packages and the electric coffee-roaster which helps to increase coffee production, Lavazza launches a readymade product on the market.
1948: This is the boom year in the demand for coffee (over 88 million lb): Lavazza progresses rapidly and optimistically doubles its capital. The resources will be used to help the business expand. In fact, the following year Lavazza opens its first branch, Sadar, in Milan.
1958: Lavazza launches Paulista, the coffee in a tin that is vacuum-packed under pressure. The launch is supported by the first unforgettable Lavazza advertising campaign: the adventures of Caballero and Carmencita, which support the character/product Paulista.
1997: Lavazza ends the year with a growth of 12 per cent. The excellent results stem also from the contribution made by “Espresso Point”, with 600 million cups of coffee served from pre-packaged pods. 1997 also marks Lavazza's debut on the internet (www.lavazza.it).
2004: Lavazza can rely on seven foreign subsidiaries and a wide-reaching international distribution network. Lavazza’s Turin plant is the largest production area in Europe, operating on 73,000 square meters of space. In Italy, out of 20 million coffee-consuming families, 16 million buy Lavazza.
